Best Things to Do in Munich

Munich is one of the most important cities of Germany; it is a city that has a lot of activity because of its historical structure, being the capital of Bavaria and also being one of the big cities of the European Union. So what are the best things to do in Munich?

1-Enter 3 doors to the city

It is possible to reach the center of Munich, or rather the old city, through one of three doors. The fourth door is unfortunately not standing today. These are Sendlinger Tor, Isartor and Karlstor. They are all at the end of the city’s important and lively streets.

2-Breathe the city at Marienplatz

Marienplatz has been the heart of Munich for hundreds of years. Here, wheat markets were established, criminals were hanged, and even in 1568, it was the home of Duke V. Wilhelm’s wedding. The fact that both the old town hall (Altes Rathaus) and the new town hall (Rathaus) are located here show that the value of the city has never decreased.

3- Chase local delicacies in city markets

If you want to try the local tastes, do what the Munich people do. You can taste Bavarian-style pastries, German pickles, different cheese, and delicatessen products. Viktualienmarkt and Elisabethmarkt are some of the places where you can try all of these tastes.

4-Visit the museums

Munich offers a wide variety of combinations for museum lovers. Deutsches Museum, the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum, the Museum Mensch und Natur, The Toy Museum and the Pinakothek Museums are among the main attractions you can visit.

5-Visit the churches

Frauenkirche, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, is one of the symbols of the city. St. Peter’s Church, Asamkirche, and St. Michael Church are some of the most touristic churches of the city.

6-Come to October Fest

The first thing that comes to mind related to Munich is the OctoberFest. It has a history of more than 200 years. The festival has been in the area called Theresienwiese since 1810. Here is an area where large and traditional brewers have set up tents and consumed Bretzels and beers in these tents.

7-See window displays in Maximilian Strasse

Maximilian Strasse, considered to be the most elegant, most beautiful street of Munich today, was originally planned in the period of King Ludwig. Among the important buildings on this street are the State Opera and the Parliament Building.

8-Enjoy Maelu Cafe

Maelu is one of the best cafes in Munich. The menu does not only have local desserts but also has its own recipes alongside yummy French and Italian delicacies.

Are there any other best things to do in Munich that you would like to add our list? 🙂

Do you really know everything about Berlin?

Germany’s capital Berlin is one of the most important cities in Europe with its museums, palaces, street arts, and vibrant nightlife. The city, which has a very rich architecture, has become one of the pioneers of modern urbanism after its stormy history. The Berlin Wall, the Brandenburg Gate, and the Reichstag Building are the most important historical buildings. Let us have a look at the interesting aspects of Berlin 🙂

Did you know that Berlin is an underground city at the same time? With its architecture, cemeteries, museum, shelters, and tunnels, this place is one of the most extraordinary places where visitors do not know. It may be really interesting to attend private guided tours to the underground city.

Propeller Island City Lodge in Berlin is one of the most interesting hotels in the world. The 45 rooms in the hotel have been prepared with different and very interesting concepts. Coffin room, torture room, reverse room, cell room, barn room are some of them. It may be interesting to stay in this hotel.

Teufelsberg is the highest peak in Berlin with a height of 115 meters. The interesting feature of this hill, known as the Devil’s Mountain is that it was raised by the rubble from the second world war. This hill has been transformed into a place where various sports activities are happening nowadays.

In the around of Berlin, there is a rural sightseeing area called 66 Lake Road. This area is one of the attractions for cyclists and trekking enthusiasts. However, the main reason that makes the rural excursion area an attraction center is that it is also a cemetery of war ruins. It has become one of the places frequented by treasure hunters due to the existence of aircraft scrap, old weapons, war materials and burials in the excavations.

Did you know that Berlin was once a bog? The pink colored pipes on the streets of Berlin were built for the evacuation of the underground water during the reconstruction of the city. In order to prevent image pollution, they painted the ugly drain pipes in pink.

Where to Stay in Berlin?

There are many neighborhoods in Berlin to live. If you are looking for an apartment in Berlin and could not decide where to live in, we believe this article will be beneficial to decide where to move.

If you are looking for an apartment as a family, Prenzlauer Berg is one of the best neighborhoods for your family. There are many restaurants offering various cuisine, good shopping areas, and parks in this neighborhood.

If you are a student, we suggest you move to Friedrichshain. The rents in this neighborhood are less than many neighborhoods. There are many bars and clubs for people who love to go out.

The best place to live and work in Berlin is Mitte. Many companies are located in this neighborhood. Even though the rents in Mitte is expensive, the flats are usually modern and new. There are also many bars and clubs in this neighborhood and it is the best place for networking.

The best place for Berlin to stay as a tourist is also Mitte. Many tourist sights are located here. Moreover, the best hotels in the city are definitely in Mitte. From my perspective, I also suggest you move to Mitte. It is the city center of Berlin and the most important touristic areas, and the best cafes and restaurants are also located here. I love the atmosphere of Mitte like many Berliners! 🙂

Insights from EMEA Summit, Global Mobility – what’s new?

How to disrupt Global Mobility using technology? That was only one of the many interesting topic discussed at FEM EMEA – the biggest European Summit about best practices and hot topics in Mobility. During the 2-days event, held on November 8 and 9 at Intercontinental 02 in London, Priscila Terenzi had the opportunity to meet her former HR colleagues from different industries and to hear the latest news on Global Mobility, learn more about Brexit, get inspired by successful cases and to get updates of new trends on Mobility, specially how technology is changing the way companies relocate employees.

Organized by Forum for Expatriate Management (FEM), a worldwide community for GM professionals, this edition was celebrating 10 years, a very special milestone indeed!

For those who don’t know, AiRelo was shortlisted for “Most Innovative use of Technology in Global Mobility – Assignee Management”, and although we didn’t win the award in the end, it was really important for GLOBALS to be part of the leading Mobility event of the year!

Interesting fact: Berlin is supposedly the international capital of Germany, so why is it that there aren’t many (almost none) Mobility events here? Perhaps it’s because the city is on early stage in the relocation process? Not many HR people talking about it? There are many answers to that question. But one fact is certain: Berlin needs to catch up the fast-growing scene of Mobility new processes, or is it the other way around? It would be great to learn the best practices, share knowledge and network for professionals and companies interested in the theme.

If you also think this is a good idea and you want Priscila to organize a Mobility event, feel free to reach us at partner@clubglobals.com
